As my friend Wazari (whose photographs are in the slideshow to the right), the bokeh, or the area that is out of focus in a photography taken at a wide open aperture, is a very important part of a photo. It sets off the subject.
Hi there, bokeh is important in photography to make the main subject standout from the crowd or from a distracting background.
Actually we don't have to spend a lot of money to get the right lens to produce this beautiful bokeh, 50mm f1.8 lens is the cheapest good quality lens money can buy, I use it most of the times photographing my son, I don't use flash, natural light will do.
Usually I open up my lens around f2 or f2.8 to get a good bokeh, sometimes I use it wide open at f1.8 but very seldom because a sudden movement of my son will make my picture blurry. At that aperture (f1.8) depth of field DOF is very shallow..
